I'm honoured, but why isn't Steve the best man?

After Vecna the party slowly accepted the dullness of monster-free life and went their own ways. They kept in touch and met up every now and then but rarely in the complete assembly.

But a wedding invite creates an opportunity to get everyone together again. Eddie has been touring most of the time, trying to get his band to pop off. Metal off. The point is, he's been a bit behind on what everyone's been up to, Henderson being his only source of updates and exchanged greetings for the better part of last year. In a month he can hug him in person, and he can host a short campaign in lieu of a bachelor party Dustin didn't want. He will ask Buckley about college life and Harrington about his disastrous love life in person.

He will ask why he was Henderson's best man, not Steve. Dustin was weirdly cryptic about it when Eddie asked and briefly wondered if they had a falling out and maybe Harrington wasn't invited at all. But that sounded ridiculous and impossible so Eddie scrapped that thought and curbed his curiosity until he was there himself.

Suzie's maid of honour turned out to be a girl named Eden. And to Eddie's surprise, she recognised him. Her slightly brooding and bored expression brightened a fraction when they got introduced.

"You play in Corroded Coffin, right?"

"Yep! The rest of the band is gonna be here too if you wanna meet them."

They joked about their similarities in the names, and the music taste until it was time to see the venue and do the wedding rehearsal. Eddie was surprised to find out Lucas was the one supervising it.

"I would give my right hand Harrington would be here to fuss over his favourite kid's wedding," he started nonchalantly as soon as he got him out of earshot.

Lucas eyed him with a weird expression.

"Well, the favorite kid isn't here so..." he trailed off pointedly.

"Ah. He's just fussing somewhere else, then. That makes sense."

"Yep," he nodded eagerly like the topic was exhausting him. But that wasn't going to deter Eddie, no sir.

"Why isn't he the best man, though?"

"What, you don't like it?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, his hands dropping to his hips. A stance he certainly learned from the babysitter himself.

"Of course I like it!" Eddie quickly assured him. "I just thought-"

"Listen, Dustin wanted both of you to be here. But for... personal reasons... Harrington had to step down."

Eddie didn't like the way Lucas was measuring his words. And he absolutely hated hearing him use 'Harrington' in place of 'Steve', like all the kids called him. There was something happening here and it didn't sound good. He frowned at his friend.

"Listen, bud, you're not exactly helping my worries here."

Lucas sighed like he was tired and while Eddie could understand that, considering he was helping with the wedding preparations, he had a feeling it was more targeted at him specifically.

"Look, I promise you," and he paused to look Eddie directly in the eyes, his gaze fierce and earnest. "It's not as bad as it sounds, okay?"

Eddie searched his face for a second but he couldn't find anything, any indication of insincerity. So eventually, he nodded.

"Okay," he said. "I trust you."

His friend's shoulders dropped with relief, lips curling into a small smile.

"Cool. Let's wrap it up here, then. Last run, everybody!"

Eddie watched the guests gather in the church benches. It was very out of his comfort zone and he couldn't remember the last time he was in any sacred place, but for the sake of his friend, he was gonna suck it up this once. Even if he had to spend even more time there as the best man.

The first rows were for the closest family. On Dustin's side, he could already see the party and teary-eyed Claudia. Next to El sat a tall woman Eddie had not seen before. Or maybe he did? She seemed familiar. Perhaps he saw her recently during wedding preparations or she was an old friend who changed with time. He certainly wouldn't recognise El these days, all grown up and with long hair, if he didn't have Max sitting on her other side to jump-start his memory.

His eyes drifted further, finding Jonathan, Nancy, Hopper, Joyce, and Argyle. The whole squad was here. Or it should be.

He scanned the crowd, skipping through the unfamiliar faces of Suzie's family before returning to the mysterious woman. Was she someone's girlfriend? But Will was gay, he came out to them a couple years ago. Lucas was still dating Max and Mike couldn't pull someone this gorgeous even if he wasn't in a vague situationship with El. Maybe she was waiting for someone? Steve? Or maybe Buckley finally lucked out?

He realised he was staring only when the girl's gaze met his. Her eyes widened, which, rude. For once, Eddie looked like an upstanding citizen, thank you very much. He has been forced into a well-tailored suit and he cleaned up well, got his hair braided on the sides and wore his normalest earrings.

But then she smiled at him, all shy and sweet and holy shit Eddie hoped she wasn't anyone's girlfriend. He doubled his efforts to remember her because he had to know her, the hair was too familiar, and that smile scratched some memories in his brain he just couldn't grasp. After the ceremony, he could get closer, see her features better. Maybe he knew her from high school? Or she's someone he's only seen photos of, or-

Someone sat down next to her, leaning down to kiss her cheek and whisper something. She turned, her smile widening at the sight of one Robin Buckley and Eddie looked around because where was Robin there was Steve too so-

The girl pointed at him with a smile and Robin waved at him excitedly and it all clicked, hitting Eddie like a rogue mine cart at Moria.

She was Steve Harrington.

Steve couldn't be the best man, because Steve wasn't a man anymore.

Look, everyone had gone through a vampire phase. One Mrs. Stephanie Meyer had a heavy hand in that. And even if one had somehow managed to skirt the whole Twilight saga, there were a litany of other vampire books/tv shows/movies that came in its wake. Almost everyone in the 2010s wanted a vampire boyfriend. Even Robin, whose taste veered toward the more extraterrestrial side of paranormal fiction, had confided in Steve that she wouldn’t mind having an undead, blood sucking vampire girlfriend.

All in all, Steve didn’t get it. Why did nearly all of the girls in his grade fawn over the idea of getting with someone older than their great grandfathers? It was gross. Not to mention the fact that vampires didn’t have blood, so how would they even be able to get it up in the bedroom? 

The whole mess baffled him to no end, and he was grateful when its popularity died down. He didn’t know if he would be able to take listening to Max and El giggling over Edward What’s-his-face.

His relief, however, was short lived. Just as the kids he baby sat started to enter high school, the Twilight saga had a resurgence of popularity all thanks to TikTok. Only this time, he didn’t just have to hear it from the girls. Max and El had gotten Lucas and Will to watch the movies with them, which led to them reading the girls’ copies of the books. And, look, Lucas he understood. When Steve was in high school, he would have done anything to please Nancy. (Luckily, she had been more interested in the rising popularity of the dystopian genre. He had thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Hunger Games series on audiobook.) But Will? Even if he was just doing it to bond with his sister, Steve thought the boy had more taste than that.

And when Lucas and Will became obsessed with it, so did Mike and Dustin. Again, Steve understood Mike, even though unlike Lucas, he was totally oblivious to his crush on Will. But Dustin? As far as Steve was aware, Suzie wasn’t allowed to read the series, even though the creator was also Mormon.

At least Erica was still at the age where she turned her nose up at any hint of romance.

But, you know, it wouldn’t be such a big deal if the kids obsession with vampires contained itself to the fictional world. He could deal with it better if it did. If then, they might be able to talk about other topics of interest. Hell, Steve would give anything to listen to the boys ramble all day long about their Dungeons and Dorks game. But Steve wasn’t so lucky.

Because while he loved the kids’ strong, creative imaginations, it meant that sometimes their fictional obsessions would spill over into the real world. And that. That was what he was really fed up with.

“I swear, it’s him,” Dustin nearly shouted over the other boys. “Same name. Same exact hair. He’s a vampire.”

Steve restrained a groan as he looked up from the dishes to see Dustin, Lucas, Will, and Mike at the dining table crowded around what appeared to be a high school yearbook.

“He can’t be!” Thank god, Mike was being the voice of reason. (Something Steve never thought he would be.) “I’ve seen him walk to his van in the sun, and he was totally fine. Also, on spaghetti day in the cafeteria, he ate, like, three slices of garlic bread!”

Steve had thought too soon.

“Then how do you explain this?” Dustin asked, gesturing to the page.

“Maybe it’s someone he’s related to?” Will offered.

“I don’t know,” Lucas said. “The resemblance is uncanny.”

Curiosity got the best of Steve. What could he say? Even if he hated this whole vampire thing, he enjoyed the weird little adventures his kids went on. Steve didn’t have many friends growing up. Hell, aside from Robin, he didn’t have many friends now. At least, friends his own age. It made his heart warm, seeing all of them getting to be a bunch of idiot children together. 

But they didn’t need to know that.

“What are you little shits looking at?” He slung the dish towel he had been using to dry the flatware with over his shoulder, and made his way over to the table.

“Steve, we think our new DM is a vampire!” Dustin announced excitedly.

Steve put his hands on his hips (his signature mom pose, according to the kids), and rolled his eyes. “Vampires aren’t real.” 

He didn’t say it to dull the kid’s enthusiasm. If anything, antagonization was their form of love language. Plus, Dustin always took the discouragement as a challenge to double down on whatever stance he took. Steve had to admire the kid for his confidence in himself. He knew first hand how easily that could be stripped away. 

“Then how do you explain this?” Dustin slid the yearbook over for him to look at, pointing at  the man in question. “He’s been in high school for years.”

Steve glanced down at the page. “Oh, Eddie Munson? He was in some of my classes last year. He was held back twice; though, that may have been because he almost never showed up to class. But that doesn’t mean he’s a vampire.”

“This is an old yearbook, though,” Lucas countered.

“If last year is old, then how ancient do you think I am?” Steve snipped. He pointed to the class picture that captured his likeness. “Look, there’s me. Does that mean I’m a vampire?”

“Steve, this isn’t your yearbook.” Dustin held the cover of the book up for Steve to read. There on the cover, in green and gold, were the words “Class of 1985.”

“What?” He snatched the yearbook from him, and flipped back to the page they had been studying. “No, that’s . . .”

He trailed off. Yes, that picture had captured his likeness; however, it was his father’s name that was written underneath. His father, who he was apparently the spitting image of.

“Maybe it’s his dad,” Steve tried, flipping through the pages. “Or his uncle. Doesn’t he live with his uncle?”

“We already checked the rest of it.” Mike snatched the book away from him. “He’s the only Munson in there.”

“His dad and his uncle could have not been in high school together,” Will countered.

“Thank you for being the only reasonable person here.”

Will blushed at Steve’s praise. 

“I am telling you,” Dustin trudged on. “Eddie Munson is a vampire. And we’re going to prove it.”

Proving it ended up being more challenging than the boys had thought. As Mike had already proved, Eddie had no aversion to garlic or the sun. Crosses, Lucas pointed out, had no affect on him either, seeing as he wore one on his ring. So there went that theory. Dustin had even followed him into the bathroom one day to see if Eddie had a reflection in the mirror. He ended up having two Eddies stare at him like he was a creep.

Either none of the stereotypes were true, or--and Dustin was loathe to admit it--Steve was right.

There was still one more thing they could try.

“I don’t think this is a good idea,” Lucas said.

Dustin huffed. “Well, do you have any better plans? Because the only thing we haven’t tried yet is a stake to the heart, which is a dumb thing to begin with because that could kill anyone.”

“What about holy water?”

“And how are you going to get a priest to agree to bless a bottle of water?” Mike asked.

“My pastor might do it,” Lucas said.

“Let’s just try this first,” Dustin said. “And if it doesn’t work, you can call your pastor.”

The plan was simple, really. While they were playing DnD that afternoon, Dustin was going to “accidently” get a paper cut. Eddie’s reaction to the fresh blood would determine whether or not he was a vampire. It was fool proof.

Unfortunately, it seemed like Dustin was a fool. Who could blame him, though? Eddie was an amazing Dungeon Master. He knew just how to craft a story to suck just about anyone in. It wasn’t until they were packing up at the end of the session that Dustin remembered the plan. That probably explained the looks the other boys had been shooting him the entire time.

Dustin was just about to drag the edge of a piece of paper across this hand, when the drama room door banged open.

“Alright, you little shits. Get in the car. I’m already having a bad day, and I don’t need your moms blowing up my phone asking where you are.”

“Steve, why do you have a tampon in your nose?” Will asked.

Dustin glanced up at Steve, only to find that the man indeed had a bloody tampon in his nose.

“I had a nose bleed, and didn’t have any Kleenex in my car. It’s the only thing Robin or I had. And it works, so I don’t want to hear anything more about it.”

Blood.

Dustin nearly gave himself whiplash turning his head to look at Eddie. Eddie, who was staring at Steve with eyes that could only be described as ravenous.

“King Steve,” Eddie drew out as he approached Steve.

“Munson.”

“Now why’s a pretty jock like you carting around a bunch of nerdy freshmen?”

“I baby sit them.”

Eddie chuckled. “Yes, they are a bunch of babies.”

That was met with a round of protests from the kids.

“How hard was your nose bleeding? Aren’t tampons supposed to be super absorbent?”

Lucas was right. There was a ring of blood leaking down the tampon.

“Are you okay?” Will asked.

Eddie, however, did not look okay. Dustin had never seen him so focused on one thing as he was with Steve’s nose. And that included DnD.

“Yeah, it just happens sometimes. I’ll be fine. Now come on, or Robin’s going to start honking.”

They were being corralled out of the building before Dustin could come to any concrete conclusions, but judging from the way Eddie had stared at Steve’s nose, he was sure their hunch was correct.

Now they just had to prove it.

Turned out, the best way to prove their DM was a vampire was to show up at his trailer unannounced. Catch him off guard while he was at his most comfortable. In fact, the hardest part about the whole thing had been trying to convince Steve to drive them over to the trailer park. In the end, he was a push over as always.

Dustin bounded up the steps to the trailer, the other boys close behind. He pounded on the door. “Eddie!”

A crash came from inside, followed by a grumbled “shit.” A few moments later, Eddie swung open the door.

“Couldn’t have given me a heads up?”

“We have some urgent DnD questions. Couldn’t’ve waited for you to respond.” Dustin and the rest of the boys pushed passed him into the trailer. Only Will hesitated, sheepish look on his face.

“Hey, wait, what are you doing!” Eddie called after them.

“Oh my god, have some manners,” Steve slammed his car door closed.

“Steve,” Eddie began. “They roped you into this?”

“They threatened to walk otherwise. Couldn’t let them get hit by a car or kidnapped.”

The four boys searched around the tidy trailer, not even trying to appear like they weren’t.

“What are you knuckleheads doing?” Eddie asked.

Steve, who they had not informed what they were doing, seemed to have caught on to their plan. “Not this again.”

“You know what they’re doing?” 

“Guys, look!” Mike, staring in the fridge, exclaimed. The boys ran over to him.

“Hey, you guys, get out of there!” Eddie exclaimed.

“Yeah, knock it off. Let the man live in piece.”

Dustin, Lucas, and Will gasped when they saw the contents of the fridge. Yes, there was normal people food in the fridge--nothing to write home about. But stacked on the top shelf was the motherload: bags and bags of blood.

Mike grabbed one and held it out for Steve to see. “We fucking told you!”

“Eddie’s a vampire,” Dustin vibrated with excitement. “Eddie, you’re a vampire.”

“Eddie’s not . . . there’s gotta be . . .Eddie?” Steve looked to Eddie as if asking him to deny the kid’s claims.

Eddie crossed his arms over his chest and heaved out an exasperated sigh. “Looks like you caught me.”

“I fucking told you!” Dustin shouted at Steve.

“Language.” Steve snapped. “Eddie, come on. Be serious. Vampires don’t exist.”

“Telling the truth, Harrington.” Eddie flashed them his fangs. “I am a vampire.” 

“You’re teeth aren’t normally that sharp,” Will said.

“I can control when my fangs come out,” Eddie said with a shrug. Then, to demonstrate, he retraced his fangs, so his teeth looked human again. “It’s been handy in hiding from mortals. In fact, you guys are the first to figure it out. Surprised it took this long for anyone to notice, honestly.”

“So you’ve been able to hide in plan sight for, like, hundreds of years?” Dustin asked.

Eddie slouched down onto the couch, understanding that he was about to be pelted with about a million questions. “More like forty.”

“Forty?” Will asked.

“I was turned in the ‘80s. ‘86, I think. I don’t know, the years start to blur together.”

“So, you’re just as old as our parents?” Mike scoffed. “Lame.”

“But I look much better than them.”

The boys took his nonchalance as permission to start their rain of questions.

“So do you have vampire powers?”

“How can you eat garlic?”

“Does the sun not burn your skin?”

“Do you have to get permission to enter new places?”

And on and on they went, only briefly pausing for Eddie to get a sufficient answer out. Meanwhile, Steve just stood by the door. Dustin could tell he was trying to process the fact that he had almost graduated with a vampire. Dustin could understand. Had he not already been convinced himself, the information would have taken a bit to accept.

When Steve finally came back around, he joined the group surrounding Eddie. 

“Why are you still at Hawkins High?” Steve asked. “You were in class with my parents. Couldn’t have you gotten out and gone someplace people won’t recognize you?”

Eddie paused, actually giving that question some thought. The other boys let him think it through instead of feeding him more questions. They wanted to know the answer too.

“Well, I tried to once, but then Wayne started having health problems, and I didn’t want to leave him alone. When I realized that I had stopped aging, I decided to stay with him even after he recovered. Realized that if I don’t grow old, I’m going to outlive him. I’d rather spend the rest of his life with him, than in hiding and regretting it when he’s gone. As for people recognizing me: you’d be surprised how little attention the freaks of Hawkins get.”

The group sat in silence for a moment, letting his words sink in. Dustin supposed that if he were turned into a vampire, he would stick around to spend as much time with his mom as he could.

“Speaking of, where is your uncle?” Lucas asked.

Eddie smiled to himself. “Technically, he’s my little brother. We started doing the whole uncle/nephew thing when he got too old to believably be my brother. And he should be finishing up his shift at the hospital. Decided to become a nurse after finishing chemo. He has always been the smart one. Besides, it helps with procuring my stash of blood.” 

Mike perked up at that. “So you do drink blood?”

“Yes.”

“But we’ve seen you eat real food.”

“You’re point?”

Mike huffed. “So do you need blood to live, or is it just a craving--like wanting a Coke?”

“I can eat real food, but it doesn’t fully satisfy my hunger. Only drinking blood does that.”

“Have you ever?” Steve gulped. “Have you ever drank blood from a person.”

“You offering?” Eddie smirked.

Steve flushed.

Weird.

As his friends continued to talk, Dustin’s mind wandered. It was no secret that Steve found men attractive. He was the biggest slut in Hawkins, after all. And Dustin had only ever seen him nervous around men who he thought were really hot. 

Oh, Dustin could have fun with this. After all, didn’t everyone want a vampire boyfriend?

Warning for a lot of irrelevant ranting about a specific Deltarune theory topic that has no impact on the actual plot of the game at all.

A lot of the time in Deltarune fan content, the creators will have Kris meet a Deltarune version of Frisk, usually as one of Asriel's college buddies or something.

I very much hate it (this is an exaggeration its just a thing that commonly happens that irritates me slightly and I needed a good way to start the post). Kris IS the Deltarune version of Frisk. It's been pretty much told to us since Undertale launched (specifically Version 1.001) via Clamgirl.

"My neighbor's daughter looks about your age. Her name is "Suzy." I feel like you two should be friends. Not knowing where I live is no issue. Fate finds a way. In life's grand scheme, she might be why you came here in the first place..."

What does Clamgirl keep talking about? What is the purpose of her dialogue? Foreshadowing Deltarune. Talking to her is what spawns the "Don't Forget" note in Sans' basement. She's the one who went goner mode to break the 4th wall a month before Deltarune launched. Everything she says about Frisk and Suzy foreshadows Kris and Susie.

"Suzy" and Frisk are fated to meet each other. In life's grand scheme, Frisk's fall needed to happen for them to meet Suzy. Fate is a huge theme in Deltarune, but what I want to specifically emphasize is that Kris and Susie were fated to meet due to the prophecy. They needed to meet to become heroes.

Clamgirl says Frisk and Suzy "should be friends." Just like how Kris and Susie end up as friends extremely quickly. Frisk "looks about'" the same age as Suzy, Kris and Susie are in the same class and thus around the same age.

Kris is just an anagram of Frisk minus the 'F'. Suzy is phonetically identical to Susie, just with one less letter. They are the only notable characters to have changed names inbetween universes, and they just swapped the number of letters with eachother. Something to note is that their UT versions do not have the anagrams to "Risk" and "Issue," which depending on the plot of this game, might actually be important.

This isn't even talking about all of Kris and Frisk's numerous other similarities.

They have the EXACT same skin color and hair color. They most likely have the same eye color, as either the red eyes are unnatural and caused by possession or possession doesn't affect their eye color. Chara does take over Frisk's body, but the sprite uses Frisk's color pallette, their skin color and hair color are the same. It's still Frisk's body. Thus the eyes are Frisk's eyes.

They have similar light world equipment. Both of them wear bandages. Frisk has a stick. Kris has a pencil, which is a wooden stick-like object.

Their light world item throw-away narration has them performing the same actions to items.

Kris has blue and magenta themed colors in the dark world, which is just a more vibrant version of Frisk's clothing color scheme in Undertale. Their entire dark world room that Ralsei built for them is in that color scheme. Ralsei specifically knows about Kris and Susie's interests and desires, as their rooms have those design choices things in mind.

They're both flirtatious. Frisk is incredibly apparent with their flirting, but you can flirt with multiple enemies as Kris, and Toby has stated they'd get accidentally disbarred due to flirting with a witness in an ace attorney setting.

They're both mischievous as well. Kris' pranks are described by Toriel, Rudy, and Noelle. They also can prank Noelle in an incredible amount of ways during chapter 2 and seem to enjoy doing it. Frisk has a lot of small little moments, especially during ACTs or the hangouts with Papyrus, Undyne, and Alphys. Some usually missed ones are when they flatten a cinnabun and pour sea tea under the hotel doors.

They serve the same purpose, our protagonist we control. Even how we start playing as them is like identical. We name the first fallen human ("TrueChara" sprite name) or the Vessel, but instead of playing as them, we get shoved into the jaundice gremlins instead (Frisk uses "mainchara" for their sprites, and Kris uses it in their code). Kris is just the natural progression of Frisk. The entire time, you were supposed to believe that you named Frisk, that they were your self insert into the world. That gets mirrored by Flowey, who believes Frisk to be the first fallen human (who you named). The game ends with Asriel and new/unspoiled players realizing that Frisk isn't Chara. In the next game, Kris gets that revealed immediately when they wake up, and they further that development by having their personality a lot more discernible without in-depth analysis.

No other theories talking about Kris' Undertale variant make sense. The Clamgirl lines are too strong. The only one that even comes close is Chara, and the similarities Kris and Chara share aren't as deep as they seem.

First off, things that Kris and Chara share that Frisk doesn't seem to show any opinions on. Chara has one comment about chocolate that seems to imply they like it and the weapon that represents them is a knife. Kris very much likes chocolate and knives, but does not use a knife as a weapon

The big one people like to point to Chara being the adopted child of the Dreemurrs. There are a lot of problems with this.

The first one is that, arguably, so is Frisk. Frisk shows interest in being adopted by Asgore when talking to Gerson in the TP epilogue and CAN be adopted by Toriel/call her mom.

The second is that Chara is distinctly and purposefully separated from the rest of the family every single time any of the Dreemurrs mention them. Asriel always calls them his best friend. In the winter alarm clock dialogue, Toriel talks about them starting with the phrase "a long time ago I knew someone " and, in the same conversation, talks about Asriel and calls him "my son." Asgore only mentions having a single child, a son, at the end of his battle. "I remember the day after my son died. [...] I just want to see my wife, I just want to see my child." He could have easily used the word "children" in either of these two instances, but did not. In the extended spare cutscene where Flowey does not kill Asgore, he again distinguishes Asriel as his child and Chara as someone else. "Young one, when I look at you... I'm reminded of the human that fell here long ago... [...] But I believe your freedom...... is what my son...... what ASRIEL would have wanted." It is only Gerson who calls Chara part of the family. The new home monsters said they were 'like' family specifically.

Kris meanwhile is always treated as part of the Dreemurr family. Narration, Toriel, and other characters refer to Asriel as their brother. Narration, Asgore, and other characters refer to Toriel as their mother. Narration, Toriel, and other characters call Asgore their father.

Third is that even if Chara is part of the family, they had an entirely different dynamic with UT-Asriel than Kris does with DR-Asriel. Chara and UT-Asriel are around the same age, with Chara taking the more stereotypically older sibling role. Kris is much younger than DR-Asriel, and Asriel takes the more stereotypically older sibling role. We can reasonably guess that Frisk is also younger than Flowey from a age standpoint. Even if Chara & Asriel were the same age as Frisk when they died, Flowey spent an unknown but long amount of time doing runs before Frisk fell. If Frisk is the one being talked to in the Winter Alarm Clock (extremely likely, Flowey's dialogue heavily hints at it), he directly positions himself as someone who's "grown up." Basically, Chara and Asriel are around the same age. Frisk and Kris are younger than their universe's Asriel.

My final point for this is that the relative timeline just works better if Kris is Frisk. All the monsters in DR are monsters we know exist/existed in Frisk's time. Even the Holiday family, with the daughters still notably being kids according to WAC-Asgore and DogCasino-Sans, the youngest one (Noelle) likely being Frisk's age like Suzy & MK are.

So at most Kris can be Frisk with a bit of Chara sprinkled on, but even if they are, Clamgirl confirms that the two of them are alternate universe versions of eachother. Chara either exists as the Vessel or as some random human in the world somewhere.

ari and dante movie things (spoilers):

CRUEL CRUEL WORLD for omitting both "I will love you forever, Aristotle Mendoza" and "I love swimming. I love swimming...and you."

I get that a lot of the more homoerotic aspects of Ari and Dante's early friendship were left out in order to preserve the surprise of the ending and keep it a question of if they'd get together but some of those moments were really great ok. And I don't think they needed to tone down Dante's crush on Ari later on, after Chicago, when he's pretty open about it.

Absolute worst change was the moments after they first kiss. Ari would never say those things. He hates his own sexuality, but he never hates Dante's. He may sometimes be awful to Dante because of how Dante makes him feel but he wouldn't lash out in blatantly homophobic ways because of it, he'd just retreat and be mad at himself (and a little at Dante). I really can't get behind this at all.

I liked the inclusion of Ophelia more, that made the end less unexpected. Unsure why she was at the New Year's party with all the family though unless they were neighbours and stuff and not family? (Except Ari's sisters, obviously.)

Including the Bernardo reveal so early was fine except for it makes sense way more after Ari fights Julian. His parents show him the Bernardo stuff because they're afraid of what they see in Ari and how their collective silence makes everyone suffer. Ari is then horrified by everything and realizes how his violence has affected his family. Vs in the movie it's sort of just swept aside as we move onto the Dante of it all.

Also I guess it helped the exposition right at the start to have a photo of Ari with Bernardo but it was such a big point of the book that no one in the family had photos of him anywhere and that hurt Ari and so it's so nice when he takes one to put up and his parents want to put it up where everyone can see it. That was just such a really nice moment and only adding two lines could have made it happen in the movie too so I don't see why not.

Ari's dad doesn't talk really and I guess that was cut for time. I get that had to happen some places, fine. It just makes their "we're talking. Everything's better." far less of a victory since it seems like a one-off thing before they retreat into a slightly easier silence, rather than them fundamentally understanding each other better and understanding how to reach out and communicate, which is how they end things in the book. There you know they'll be OK and talk lots more.

The first scene with the bird, where the boys are shooting it with BB guns was cut also for time and mostly that was fine except for how it removed the part where Dante finds out Ari likes to fight. Which is an important revelation for Dante to have.

Why was Ileana's name changed? That was so unnecessary and Ileana is a beautiful name.

Basically everything with the parents was cut down to the point that they were all pretty 2D characters and I missed them and their friendships with each other and Ari and I guess there just wasn't time but oh what could have been.

DANTE'S GAY-ASS OUTFITS WERE EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING, OK.

Gina and Suzie suffered the same "cut down for time" treatment as everyone else but I missed them also.

I'm not sure how they could have shown it since the whole part is so internal but with the bit where Ari thinks he hates Dante, that was pretty important and they just sort of skipped it. It's a really interesting way to show how internalized homophobia can manifest.

I appreciate that the trans woman mentioned was clearly explained to be a trans woman in a way that made sense for the characters (teenagers fairly uneducated on the topic, in the 80s) but didn't use language now considered offensive and didn't misgender her.

Visually, things were lovely.

Swimming criticism: the second day Ari and Dante go swimming, so after two days of lessons, the previous day on which he learned a back float, Ari races underwater by doing whip kick. No way he'd be able to do whip kick that fast. No one even teaches it that early on, not even random kids who have no official teaching backgrounds.

I always feel in the book like Ari and Dante read a bit young for their age the first summer. That didn't really feel like it was the case here, so that was nice.

It was kind of funny when Dante and co. come back from Chicago and are all "oh my god Ari you look so different" and he looks exactly the same.

There's not so much with Legs and how boys need dogs and dogs are one of the secrets of the universe etc.. I like that stuff.

I did notice all the other bits cut for time and I did miss them all.

random thoughts about doona!

(the rest will be under the cut because i don't know how long this post will be, might contain some spoilers as well)

i'm trying something different from my other "random thoughts about xyz" and i'll divide this into what i liked and what i disliked about the show. i watched all nine episodes in the same sitting so i'm too lazy to make a post for each episode <;/3

let's start with the pros

the acting is great. the choice of casting was made wisely and every actor knew what to do to make their character believable.

the scenery is stunning! if you know me, you know i'm a sucker for beautiful decor and landscapes and this drama gave it to me.

bae suzy. yes she needs a whole section dedicated just to her. i may be biased but she is a great actress and played doona really well. so, for that and her beauty, she deserves to be mentioned at least once in this post.

now onto one of the main reasons why i liked this drama: the behind the scenes of the kpop industry. the writers gave us the whole picture: the diet culture, the hate comments, the se*ualization of women in the industry, and the toxic environment she is in. it was important to tackle this topic and they did it good.

talking about doona's toxic environment, let's talk about the one and only in wook. that man is a scumbag but he's unfortunately not the only evil manager in kpop. using the darvo tactic to guilt trip doona into making a comeback. the only thing i wanted to do was slap him and shoo him away. but alas, he won in the end.

and now the cons

i'm sorry but this drama was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow (ironic comment if you understand what my username means) the want to skip parts of the show was strong but i held it back because i feared missing a crucial part.

it felt weird that i had the anti-main couple syndrome when watching this. i've always either ignored or supported the main couple but for this show............. how can i say it? i was a h8ter. the moment they got together, i wanted them to break up immediately. lots of awkward moments and doona kind of playing with won jun's feelings didn't sit right with me. the only couple i rooted for was choi i ra & koo jung hoon 💕

just like i mentioned previously, it was obvious that doona was copying the treatment she received to won jun. she was being manipulative with him, playing with his feelings and using him to forget in wook. i didn't like it. at times, i found her selfish too :/

i wish this drama had a lot more scenes with doona as an idol and with her group dream sweet but that didn't happen unfortunately.

this is weird but this show felt too short and too long at the same time. too short because i wished some points were developed a little bit more, but too long because there were some unnecessary moments in it.

overall, i'm giving this show a 6/10. the cons outweighed the pros and i couldn't wait to finish watching it.

Right now I want to share my favorite K-drama that I’ve watched until now.

Start-up (2020)

yes. this is an old drama. But I am insisting in writing it now because I watched it for the third/fourth time.

I don’t want to write the summary of the drama, because you guys can look for it in wiki. But I want to share what I love about that drama!

the casts! I always love Suzy and Nam joohyuk, and so when I knew they played together in this drama I just couldn’t wait. Their chemistry, their acting, their visual. just wow

the story! You can find anything you want there: comedy, drama, family, romance, career, friendship..

the script! If you read my fanfic that I’ve written in this account, you must know that I love angsty-fluff, with poetic-metaphor- and full of hidden meanings. The words Istg... It’s simple and yet it portrays and adds the emotion to the scene. if I may say, I think it’s the most perfect script I’ve ever watched

Knowledge! just the continuation from the script, i love how this drama also gives us knowledge about start up, business, and AI. It’s fresh

I just love Dosan! many ppl will hate me for this, but I ship dosan and dalmi, not ji pyeong. I love how he decides to help Dalmi, how he falls in love with her immediately, how he feels inferior and not entitled to be with her and yet he wants to (isn’t it the most humane thing?), how he tries his best to be the best for her and makes her dream come true, how he shows his admiration and love in little things he does for her, how heartbroken he looks when he come back to seoul, ARRGH it’s just how it’s not love?

“follow your dream: and my dream is you”. okay, when I write this I just feel dejavu. I think I wrote almost the same thing when I reviewed Go go squid: DT.Appledog’s time. LMAO, maybe I am that hopeless romantic and a love story like this is my favorite. DOSAN’S LOVE IS THAT PURE Y”ALL (cries)

I watched many titles for more than 1 time, and I usually laughs whenever I watched them, even though I know the story. But this drama, that angsty-fluff feeling always hurt my little heart, and not all those drama capable to do it, and I even watched this drama with 1.5 to 2.0 speed. Still tugging my heartstrings

Overall it’s a perfect drama. with realistic topic, pure love, greaaattt script, great chemistry.

9.95/10 - definitely will watch again for the nth times

Some of the initial ideas that I experimented with in order to move my project forward and see what was successful. After my tutorial I realised I needed to focus on having a system and not worry so much about the words 'Translate & Transform'.

Wrinkles and how they translate the face to show emotion

Dingbats, how words translate into images/visaversa to create meaning.

3D Form applying poetry descriptions of emotion.

Default is white, and then any application the those shapes in the same places is to express the emotions conveyed in the poetry.

Upon doing it again, it could be made simpler, didn't have to add the poetry layer, despite this being a standardising measure.

What I am decideing

I. created mindmaps to catagorise all my ideas

When I was starting to look at what I wanted to do for FMP  and I experimented with multiple potential outcomes and explored each to a degree, my experiments were :

-collages etc etc colour psychology and the use for mental health- did research in emotion intererpretation as well as Ai collages and how they can be used to show didffferent things in a more modern society and the line of  art, controversial.

-the intial experiments of magazine stuff

- autism awareness various art ideas and exhibition ideas

I had a tutorial where I presented my favoured ideas and I was informed to devlop these in order to find a good project that im interested in.

- autism assistance with a game for stimming, experimentation with characters and colour and setting as well as activity and possible game designs I developed the chaacrters and background with research backing my choices. Research about stimming showed that people tend to use their hands and don’t know how to channel their nervous energy and a common ‘stim’ is tapping and wiggling hands and fingers in a rhythm and this led me to think a game with subgames where you may need to tap would be helpful.

-counter print style book of some nature

- I looked into some topics that were interesting that could be made into a magazine and found I was very interesting in subjective art specifically in an urban environment, for example how some people see graffiti as art and other vandalism, listed buildings old and ugly or landmarks that shape communities. I did a lot of research into this and found it’s a very extensive topic, when I presented this idea in my tutorial I was told to try to narrow it down which led me to do more research into the broad subject and find niches within it to give it more purpose, like who is going to want to consume this topic and why.

After having the workshops with Ciaran I was able to think. More about page furnitre and construction of most editorial pieces as well as thinking about readability and layouts and if I was to take this route I would know how to do it.

Doing initial research –

Barbican and looking at how the building was a symbol rather than just a buikding and investigating this as a whiole, key to the skyline but a skyline which was once destroyed by the war, this signified the rebuilding. And how brutalist architecture can provide housing and community but many people hate it and some people love it, maps that are sold.

Tutorial – rather than just looking at these buildings and brutilitic ideas since I don’t want to do only brutalist architecture maybe I need to think about making the idea a bit more specific and have a purpose in a different area, look into renovated buildings or other controversial architecture but more narrowed down

I also looked at urban jungles and identities of a town, what defines a place and gives somewhere a narrative such as town logos as crests that define , green spaces or buildings that subvert typical expectations, plants on buildings and buildings maing a difference

What makes a place unique – what gives a place narrative, hidden gems

While looking at narrative I researched my buildings that have unique stories. I looked at eco umberto (Eco, 2004) after advice from Suzi and this introduced the concept of beutification making things uglier and subjectiveness of this theory. In addition to this, I was given lots of references to look into. I spoke to suzi in order to guide me into a more specific topic in which I could concider narratives and historical contexts of places and have my content be the philosophical debate of the subjectiveness of physical and urban ‘art. Ruins as a concept did interest me however while doing research I found lots of ressources which when I presented this it was found to be too broad and the subject matter needed to have a more specific cause.

After that tutorial I took a different method of research and went back to scratch a little. I knew that I wanted to explore the unexplored but it was finding the hold within this topic on which to grip onto. One of the key things that has directed me into discovering how I might like to do my project was flaneur magazine. The premise is a wander on only one street and it’s a detailed exploration of this in the form of a magazine editorial piece. I found it intregueing that theyre able to find a very small topic and expand one this, this was useful because I was trying to do big concepts to make sure that I had enough to write about which means it may not be as indepth. Similarly to this I looked at macguffin magazine since they use really specific niche topics and create a whole bookzine and use research stemming from a topic to determine the rest of the content.

I listened to a few projects, one in particular helped shaped my project called “cerca guide to London” (Cerca, 2022) because  it expanded on some of the history I was hoping to find about London and it proved that you don’t need images like Instagram images in order to be able to make somewhere seem interesting. And more defines a place, I found there was a lot of rich history that I hadn’t neccisserily considered and so I did further research on these areas to try to find more topics that I found interesting and could lead me to a possible FMP idea. Fortunatly it informaed me of a lot of different locations, in particular I was drawn to Whitechapel and its culture merging of both cockney and asisan communities and how this manifests in the small town within London. Additionally, it isn’t a typically tourist area and that is what I was interesting in since It also had a lot of narrative such as historical significance like dick turpin and Jack the ripper and this might be interesting to some tourists.

Broaden the project, find the best outcome

After looking at research surrounding this area, I looked at a lot of walking tours since I felt that it was a way of seeing what somewhere looked like, getting informed about the location as well as having a clear view of what it is like without social media cultivation. This was helpful for my topic because a tour in its self gives a narrative and presents ideas of where one might like to see in person and this is an interesting potential topic for my final outcome since if I am trying to encourage people to venture out of the main places, this is potentially an effective way to do it by planning it already.

After looking at many different ways of encouraging people to go to places they haven’t been, I wanted to look at different forms this could take so experimented with all the possible outcomes in rough.

I looked at navigation apps in order to combat the issue that many people don’t know that the hidden gems are there at all or don’t know how to get there, however, this doesn’t provide much scope for a project

I had a conversation with a tourism student which gave me some things to think about and was helpful when concidering what I needed to concider with this project, like if its to encourage people to travel less based on social media, are you targeting the younger people since it isn’t that demographic who traditionally get magazines in the tourism industry, also concider making it more of a “coffee table” feature than what traditional, I need to think about who this audience is and where they can get it, is it in a travel agents to pick up because it is all different demogrpahics of people doing different kinds of trips. Our age isn’t probably likely to have moved away from social media but slightly older may have more and their travel isn’t as dictated by it any more.

81% enjoy exploring places in their own local area. (Hidden Scotland, 2019). This is interesting as it helps me try to define my target audience since it is whether I should target those living in london looking for something new to do, or those travelling into London.

I looked at the pentagram manhole cover book and I liked that such a simple thing could be used to give an indication as to what a place is like I want to experiment with this simplistic nature, stripped back. (pentagram, n.d.)

Further experiments with pushing my idea when trying to define a unique way of expressing encouraging people to visit less known places, when I had a discussion with Ciaran we spoke about some of my previous research and how its about exciting exploration and some gamification, and we discussed form of having something in a similar vein to the unknown flight locations.

 After research into other ways of finding things diviner sticks were something some people have fun with exploring. This hatched the idea of : Nearness indicator – hot or cold closer to less habituated places, but there are dangers of this since places where less people are may be dangerous, this is a rough experiment of how something like this could be visualsed in order to see if this is something that I would concider:       Its exciting because it plays on peoples sence of magic and the unknown too

I also looked at form and using peoples child like nature to make them more excited to exmplore, Pinata style form but a play on words to have a sence of mystery it’s a “weekend break” inspired by the mystery holidays. This uses paper form and breaking the paper to have inside smaller pieces of editorial that encourage you to visit somewhere and plan your trip. Some experiments I did with this:

I decided on hiden locations, but in order to play with the format, I want to encourage people to go through intrigue and enigmatic images, for example, people on social media visit somewhere knowing exactly what its like, I want to subvert that and get people to visit because they have no idea what it is like since research shows that people get intrigued and mystery piques interest.  I want to obscure images and so I looked for artists who have done this in a way I might like to.  (noir, n.d.)

research I did found that guide books were not infact “dead in the digital age” and people still want physical travel guides which led me to abandon the app proposals. (Stoller,Forbes, n.d.)

I did a flaneur in repsinse to my research as a practice in order to see what I could collect, along side this I did some rubbings with crayons at some of the textures surrounding me as influenced by the pentagram magazine/book. I did this since I want to see different ways of stripping back a place and the images I collect but still give an idea of the place.

Finding content -  After my tutorial, I was told that I may need to narrow my search even further since I was unlikely to have chance to get to all of the stops even in just zone 1 of piccadilly line, additionally, places I was finding online were proving to not be very secret since they were featured online, to avoid this I tried searching small businesses on social media and using this as a method of finding other small businesses however this also proved difficult, so implementing the idea of a flaneur, I decided to go and experience the locations and find them for myself while there since then I can feel what its like to be there.

 

Primary research – I did primary research in London and wandered around in the attempt to find backstreets with interesting and unconventional places while still only 10 minutes away from a central tube line featured on the piccadilly line.  In the beginning this proved to be a slight challenge due to the nature of central London being mostly chains and large establishments, but venturing into back roads and ally ways I began to find places that had no one or very little people in them. Some were even closed which felt tricky to document, however, it was still interesting to find this in central London.

 

Editing the photos- I want to edit the photos  to fit with both the audience of the publication being more artists or those who do want to find more interesting places, those who have seen the main tourist attractions and want to see something different, but also to just learn more about places that subvert the typical tourist attractions and learn about their stories.

App which employs gamification which influenced further research since this seemed to be encouraging to some people to do certain things, so this might be an idea to incorporate into my project if trying to find….. people like to go geocaching and it played on the idea of having checkpoint, and the colour scheme was to make you feel elite and exclusive like a club and it was kind of a mission to visit the secret places, the incentive might be vouchers to hidden gems such as local shops etc but fits into your routine and collected the signs like Pokémon go, and I do like this but it has more potential as a campaign and I felt like I didn’t want to do an app since it was the opposite of what I wanted to do with my project as I was trying to get people off devices.

Let's suppose there's a person of faith. It probably doesn't matter which faith, as most of those we know of are pretty intolerant to people being gay.

If you are of this idea and/or belief system, I'm not necessarily here as an attack or an affront on what you yourself believe. We're allowed to disagree, so long as you keep it over there, but. . .

My point-

Let's say you feel like being homosexual should be regarded as less than in . . . rights, moral appeal, societal responsibilities, etc, etc.

Then one day you are at a religious affiliated group time, like a service at your local "home" church, synagogue, mosque, or wherever, or maybe it's doctrine study like a Tuesday night Bible study, whatever.

Now this a "family" type get together, so there's kids there, younger kids. Whether or not they're yours makes no difference, but for the purpose of this, they are.

Main topic, or side conversations are on homosexuality, and as hard as it is to stay on tactical point, (and some try), still disgruntled hate and opinionated judgment from most of the people are aired.

Pick your statement.

We all know what I mean here.

Conversing continues, maybe a leader tries to rectify how the approach is, or maybe they share in it, or maybe it's light enough to everyone present it isn't frowned upon.

Maybe it's just a sermon.

Your kid hears, some or all of it. Takes in some or most of it, and it resonates with them as you'd probably expect it would with a kid.

Now you're at home. Maybe it's a holiday or private family function.

Your or your spouse's gay brother or sister is coming over. You think to yourself, "It's whatever."

You know you don't agree with their lifestyle, but you love them in your own way, and you'd never actually treat them differently.

But your kid, or that kid, didn't understand that's a part of it.

They're confused because they loved their auntie or uncle with all their hearts.

Now they're acting different around them, to them. In their confusion, they act out a little bit. You honestly have no idea why.

After everyone leaves, you have a talk with them, and it turns out they heard and think they know they aren't supposed to like them.

You try to set them straight with a talk about "We disagree with their choice, but we don't treat them differently."

Loving the "sinner" but hating the "sin" doesn't sit in the same place for a child.

Their relationship with that special family member is forever tainted, and their little open mind (and heart) starts to close as they follow along with the most important people in their lives, their parents.

If my dad is a drug addict, chances are I'll be trying drugs, at the very least, at least once.

Children are impressionable beyond understanding.

If your intent is for this to be your kid, well, good luck with that turning out well. I feel for your kid so much that it hurts my heart.

If it isn't, CHANGE something before it's too late.

If you're the one making that impression and it's not your kid, then in your ignorance, intolerance, and bigoted judgment, you are still responsible, even if no one holds you accountable.

I know, that not everyone is here yet, some may never be, and I will never stop trying to reach for more of the common ground and to respect the difference, diversity, and beauty I find around me, but some of that shit needs checked.

Poisoning the minds of our young is a whole different thing to me.

Believe me, I'm working on things now that will be my contribution to that one day, but if I ever see that ignorance directly, or indirectly filling the mind of a child I'm allowed to approach they will know the other side of that hate if I have anything to say or do about it.
